Edgewater is a neighborhood located on the north side of Chicago. The area is situated on the shores of Lake Michigan. Because of this, there are many parks and beaches for residents to enjoy in the neighborhood. The red line of the L train system runs north-south through Edgewater. The neighborhood is great for residents who don't own cars, as they can complete daily errands with ease using public transportation. Lake Shore Drive runs along the eastern edge of the area, offering a way downtown for those who do drive.
The Edgewater Historical Society is dedicated to preserving local history through education, research and sharing within the community. The society runs a museum in the neighborhood and frequently conducts house tours of historic buildings in Edgewater. The neighborhood was founded in 1886.
Edgewater is a great community for those who love the arts. The Rivendell Theatre Ensemble works to promote and celebrate the work of female artists. The theater – located in the center of the neighborhood – holds three shows each season. The Raven Theatre is located on the north of the area and is a nonprofit arts organization. It offers educational opportunities with the TAKE FLIGHT program, which reaches out to local schools.
