The Near Eastside neighborhood of Indianapolis is located on the city's east side, right next to the downtown district. Major roads in the area include Interstate 70, Interstate 65 and East Washington Street. Neighborhood residents can travel throughout the city via car, bus or train.
Brookside Park is located on the north side of the neighborhood. It's home to Pogue's Run Creek, Pogue's Run Trail and the Brookside Disc Golf Course. Residents hike and bike the trail, picnic throughout the park, and play games of disc golf when the weather is nice. George Pogue and his family settled near the creek in 1820. After Pogue disappeared in 1821, area residents named the creek after him.
The area of Near Eastside that's north of the a railroad (which lets residents ride through the city) is almost entirely industrial. There you'll find tile producers, security companies and the Circle City Industrial Complex. The rest of the Near Eastside is make up of residential buildings, shops, restaurants and schools.
The neighborhood is also home to a few community theaters. The Emerson Theater, located on the east side, hosts a variety of music acts. The Rivoli Center for the Performing Arts, Inc., is a historic building registered with the National Register of Historic Places.
