Near Westside is a neighborhood near the heart of Indianapolis that's bordered to the east by the White River. Major roads in the area include Washington Street, Michigan Street and Belmont Avenue. Neighborhood residents can travel throughout the city via bus, car or train.
The White River Gardens are located in the southeast corner of Near Westside and they offer residents an escape from the bustle of urban life. You can enjoy the greenery outside or visit the Hillside Conservatory to view tropical plants. The conservatory is also home to numerous species of butterflies.
Residents spend time outdoors in Near Westside by visiting one of several parks or by hiking along the White River Wapahani Trail. You'll be able to watch the White River glisten as you walk or bike alongside it.
Near Westside is home to the Indiana Medical History Museum. Located in the Old Pathology Building of the former Central State Hospital, the museum teaches visitors the history of medicine, science education and health careers.
You'll find a few shops, restaurants and cafes scattered throughout the area. There are also a number of schools, including Wendell Philips School 63, Indianapolis Metropolitan High School, Providence Cristo Rey High School and Stephen Foster Elementary School.
