Royal Oak Estates is a residential complex approximately 5 miles southwest of Edinburg, Texas. The estates lie between Trenton Road and Robin Avenue, just west of South McColl Road, the main route into Edinburg's downtown hub. From Royal Oak Estates, downtown Edinburg averages a 15-minute commute. The estates lie 12 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Royal Oak Estates has a number of amenities within walking distance. A block west of the estates there is a strip mall holding many stores including Home Depot, Sam's Club, Best Buy, Target and Kohl's, making shopping easy and convenient. The area also boasts a grocery outlet, a Starbucks and a Cici's Pizza. Just east of the estates there is a Wal-Mart Supercenter. Other eateries within walking distance include Subway, McDonald's, Wok Xpress, Kato's Sushi and Sweet Spot: Frozen Yogurt. 

Approximately a half mile southwest of the estates lies Robin Park, a public recreational area complete with a playground and obstacle course, as well as picnic tables. Bill Schupp Park is also near Royal Oak Estates, resting about 2 miles south of the residential complex.


The Prospect Hill neighborhood is on the west side of downtown San Antonio next to Market Square, also known as El Mercado, a historic public market with food, shopping and musical entertainment. Prospect Hill begins at N Comal Street and extends westward in a narrow strip of land between W Martin Street and W Commerce Street, eventually expanding south along S Zarzamora Street and north along Alazan Creek. Major roads close by include the McDermott Freeway, Cleto Rodriguez Freeway and S PanAm Expressway. This neighborhood is a short distance from the heart of San Antonio, making downtown easily accessible by bus or bicycle. 

Prospect Hill is home to Our Lady of the Lake University as well as the Christian Academy of San Antonio. Elmendorf Park is Prospect Hill's largest park, providing running trails, a seasonal swimming pool, athletic fields and a lake perfect for fishing. Furthermore, this neighborhood is surrounded by creeks with walking trails along the shorelines.  

The Prospect Hill neighborhood has a strong historical sense of Mexican heritage and has numerous cultural amenities, including Mujer Artes, a pottery cooperative, and Guadalupe Cultural Arts Theater. 

Braun's Farm is a neighborhood in San Antonio nestled between the northwest side and far west side of the city. It is a triangular neighborhood, with the south side ending at Braun Road and the north side ending at the intersection of Bandera Road and the Charles West Anderson Loop. 

Braun's Farm is close to O.P. Schnabel Park, which has many athletic fields including basketball courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields and one football field. The park also offers nature trails and pavilions for picnics and private events. Nani Falcone Park, a large recreational park that includes a skate park and disc golf course, is also nearby. A short drive westward leads to Government Canyon State Natural Area. Braun's Farm is far enough removed from the city to offer an easy escape into the surrounding wilderness. 

The neighborhood has a large population of adults, but also possesses a strong public school system. Commute time into the city averages 35 minutes, which is a typical travel time for commuters in most surrounding neighborhoods as well. 

Braun's Farm is within the larger loop that forms the enormous cityscape of San Antonio, yet it provides a residential neighborhood with its own individual community and identity. 

Apartments in Palm Heights

Palm Heights is a neighborhood located about 10 minutes south of downtown San Antonio. The majority of residents in the community commute by car for work or pleasure.

Area residents can take their pick of many different types of rental housing options in Palm Heights. From the classic mom-and-pop 10-unit complex to luxurious gated communities, this neighborhood has a lot to offer.

Several schools in Palm Heights serve the students there. They include Charles Graebner Elementary, Saint James School, Palm Heights Baptist, Hoelscher Elementary, Brentwood Junior High School and Lowell Academy.

Palm Heights, Collins Garden, Frank Tejeda and Normoyle parks are all within Palm Heights and offer residents a place to go to enjoy walking paths, jungle gyms and fields for recreational activities.

Plenty of chain restaurants offer residents a place to grab a bite to eat throughout the neighborhood, many of which are located close to bus stops that are operated by VIA Metropolitan Transit.

Residents of Palm Heights enjoy the warm and sunny Texas weather in the summer when it reaches an average temperature high of about 86 degrees Fahrenheit. In the winter, the average low temperature is in the mid 50s. Palm Heights sees most of its rainfall in March.

Apartments in Northwest Crossing

Northwest Crossing stays true to its name, located about 25 miles northwest of San Antonio. The main roads in the area are Interstate 410 and State Route 87, called McDermott Freeway. Most of the residents of this neighborhood commute by car.

The community has a very active neighborhood association that hosts regular events. Some include an Easter egg hunt, swim lessons at the area pool and Zumba classes. There is also a swim team that is the oldest in the community. Youngsters in Northwest Crossing can take part in the local soccer program, and there is even a club for scrapbookers.

There are several national chain restaurants for the area residents to enjoy, including establishments that serve pizza, tacos and Chinese food. A few nearby grocery stores are available as well.

There are a number of elementary schools in Northwest Crossing for local students, as well as Scarborough, Northbrook Senior and Spring Woods high schools.

Residents enjoy the warm Texas weather in the summer months, when temperatures reach average high temperatures of about 83 degrees Fahrenheit. In the winter, the coldest it gets in this community is in the mid-​ 50s.

Apartments in Shearer Hills

Shearer Hills is a community about 25 minutes northeast of San Antonio. Major roadways in the area include State Route 1604 (aka the Charles West Anderson Loop) and Interstate 35 (or North PanAm Expressway). The majority of residents in Shearer Hills commute by car.

Residents enjoy a very walkable community with mid-century homes lining the streets and breathtaking views of downtown San Antonio. There are also plenty of rental apartments in the neighborhood.

Students can attend several schools in Shearer Hills. The elementary schools in the neighborhood include Ridgeview Elementary and Dr. Harmon W. Kelley Elementary, as well as Dr. James L. Birch Institute. Nimitz is the local middle school. Five universities serve the students there: Trinity, Texas Lutheran, Texas State, St. Mary's and the University of the Incarnate Word.

Residents of this area enjoy beautiful Texas weather all year round. The average high temperatures in the winters stay around 60 degrees Fahrenheit and dips into the 40s for the lows. Summers in Shearer Hills are sunny and warm, reaching an average of 97 degrees in August for the high, and into the mid​ 70s for the low.

Apartments in Thompson

Thompson is a neighborhood located about 6 miles west of downtown San Antonio. Residents have access to U.S. Highway 90 that runs along the neighborhood's northern border. The community is also situated close to a facility called Port San Antonio, which is an international airport, an aerospace complex and the location of two railroads. Lackland Air Force Base is just west of Thompson.

Residents have many options when it comes to rental apartments in Thompson. Some of the complexes include Darby Place, The Diplomat Apartments, Kennedy Arms and Roselawn Apartments.

There are plenty of chain restaurants and some local, independent eateries for the residents of Thompson to enjoy, many of which are close to neighborhood schools. Area residents can visit a number of nearby parks, including Kennedy, Lindbergh, Mateo Camargo and Roselawn. Most parks have fields for recreational activities like music festivals and car shows. Kennedy Park features a pool and half a mile of walking trails.

Apartments in Vance Jackson

Vance Jackson is a neighborhood just 10 minutes from downtown San Antonio. Main roadways in the area include Interstate 10 (the McDermott Freeway) and State Route 345 (aka Fredericksburg Road). Most Vance Jackson residents commute by car for work and pleasure, but there are plenty of bus routes in the neighborhood run by VIA Metropolitan Transit for convenient transport.

Residents of Vance Jackson are active and enjoy spending time at the local parks. Some of those nearby areas include Eisenhower, Friedrich Wilderness and Orsinger parks.

There are also many schools serving the residents of Vance Jackson. Colonies North, Cornerstone, Howsman, St. George and St. Matthew are the local elementary schools. Hobby Middle School is also located in the neighborhood. High school students attend either Clark or Robert E. Lee schools.

Locals can also take their pick of different ways to have fun in Vance Jackson. There are several movie theaters, as well as the famous Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Seaworld. There is a ton of fun to be had in this community so close to San Antonio!

Apartments in Leon Valley

Leon Valley is a community located on the northwest side of San Antonio. Major nearby roadways include Route 16 and Interstate 410, which bisect the area. Many residents use these roadways to commute by car to downtown San Antonio and beyond. Leon Valley is 8 miles west of Uptown San Antonio and 10 miles northwest of Downtown San Antonio.

Residents in this neighborhood enjoy the proximity to San Antonio's leading attractions, including SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Bandera Road and Loop 410 are the primary arteries to these amusement parks. The neighborhood of Leon Valley is 3 miles from South Texas Medical Center and 8 miles to the San Antonio International Airport.

Residents can have fun at different nearby entertainment facilities, including the local bowling alley, skate center, and go-kart arena. Because Leon Valley is so close to downtown San Antonio, many locals in the neighborhood commute to the city for work or pleasure and find a diverse urban selection of restaurants, shopping attractions, bars and museums.

This area is a great place for families with children of all ages. Leon Valley is home to five elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools including John Marshall High School and Holmes High School. The neighborhood also operates the Leon Valley Public Library.

Jefferson is a neighborhood on the northwest side of San Antonio. Major roads in the area include McDermott Freeway, Fredricksburg Road and Dickerson Drive. Neighborhood residents can travel throughout the city via car or bus. 

The Jefferson Neighborhood Association was founded in 1982 to help preserve the area. The JNA holds monthly meetings where residents can discuss neighborhood issues, such as what sort of amenities they'd like to see built.

Woodlawn Lake and Park rests on Jefferson's southern border. This natural green space is a popular outdoor spot for residents of San Antonio. You can hike through the wooded areas, fish on the lake, climb on the playground equipment, go for a swim at the community pool or work out in the recreation center.

There are a few shops and restaurants scattered throughout Jefferson, though you'll find the highest concentration of them along Fredricksburg Road. Stop for a cup of coffee at the local cafe or dine at one of several authentic Mexican restaurants.

Jefferson is home to a variety of schools, including Thomas Jefferson High School, St. Paul Catholic School, Redeemer Lutheran School and Woodlawn Elementary School. Thomas Jefferson High School is a designated historic site, built on what once was a cow pasture.
