Apartments in Richmond District

The Richmond District is a neighborhood in the northwest corner of San Francisco that was developed in the late 1800s. State Route 1 runs north-south through the center of the community and it is bordered to the south by Golden Gate Park. The Pacific Ocean lies to the west and San Francisco National Cemetery and Presidio Golf Course border the northern edge of the Richmond District.

The neighborhood is home to a vast affluent Chinese population. In fact, the commercial strips on Geary Boulevard Clement Street are commonly referred to as the "second Chinatown," boasting more highly-rated Chinese restaurants than Chinatown itself.

Residents nicknamed the area "the Richmond," and they enjoy several parks there. Sutro Heights Park is one example, along with Rochambeau playground that has tennis and basketball courts. Lincoln Park and Golf Course contains the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, a part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.

The San Francisco Unified School District serves students living in the Richmond District. Several elementary schools are located there, along with Presidio and Roosevelt middle schools. George Washington High School also makes its home in the district.

Two libraries are nearby: the Richmond/Senator Milton Marks Branch and the Anza Branch of the San Francisco Public Library.
