Coulwood West is a residential neighborhood approximately 10 miles northwest of downtown Charlotte, North Carolina. The neighborhood runs along the west side of Valleydale Road and expands to the west past Interstate 485. Other major roadways include Mount Holly Road, Bellhaven Boulevard and Brookshire Boulevard. From Coulwood West, downtown Charlotte averages a 20-minute commute by car. Public bus transportation is also available.
Coulwood West is home to Coulwood Park and Shuffletown Park, as well as Pine Island Country Club. Coulwood Park has numerous recreational amenities, including baseball diamonds, batting cages, tennis courts, a playground, nature trails, a volleyball court and an amphitheater. Other local amenities in the neighborhood include fitness centers, grocery stores and a comic book lounge.
Coulwood West is located near a variety of other amenities as well. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is only a 15-minute drive south, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center is only 6 miles to the east of the neighborhood. The Whitewater center offers a number of outdoor activities including kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking and, of course, whitewater rafting. To the north of the neighborhood is Mountain Island Lake and the Carolina Raptor Center, an avian sanctuary and medical center for endangered birds.
