Highland Creek is one of North Carolina's largest residential neighborhoods, and it's located just outside of Charlotte. The area lies approximately 18 miles north of the city and surrounds Highland Creek Golf Club. The neighborhood spans across  two counties and boasts a population of nearly 14,000 people. Major nearby motorways include Highland Creek Parkway, Eastfield Road, Mallard Creek Road and the Jeff Gordon Expressway. From Highland Creek, downtown Charlotte averages a 25-minute commute by car. Public bus transportation is also available.

The Highland Creek Golf Club is the center of the community. It is a championship 18-hole course with five lakes. Several other prominent golf courses are in the area as well. The neighborhood also has five community pools and six public tennis courts. Furthermore, Highland Creek has two clubhouses that are open to the community for special events and a sports club complete with a fitness center.

Highland Creek is approximately 10 miles from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Many residents in the neighborhood work at the nearby university. Other amenities in the surrounding area include the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord Mills Mall and Concord Regional Airport.
