Apartments in Riverside

Riverside is a neighborhood of Jacksonville, Fla., that was founded in 1887 along the St. John's River. Major roadways in the area include Interstate 10 to the north and Roosevelt Boulevard to the west. Most residents of Riverside commute by car to work, though many of them carpool, and bus lines are available for transportation to and from downtown Jacksonville.

The community in Riverside is committed to urban planning and historic preservation, making it one of Florida's most architecturally-diverse neighborhoods. In fact, Riverside is listed as a National Register Historic District. Many of the residences in the neighborhood were built between 1940 and 1969. However, a number of buildings were also built before 1940.

The city of Jacksonville developed the neighborhood of Riverside out of land that formerly made up two plantations in the area: Dell's Bluff and a tract eventually known as Magnolia Plantation. Today, the area is mostly residential, with plenty of apartment complexes. There is also a mix of high-rise and small apartment buildings, and most of the residential property in Riverside is renter occupied.

Residents enjoy the commercial districts of Five Points, Kings Street and the Shoppes of Avondale where they find stores, bars, restaurants and cinemas.
