The South Southwest neighborhood of San Antonio rests between the South PanAm Expressway and the Connally Loop, within the inner loop of the city, and part of the neighborhood extends south along Palo Alto Road. South Southwest is a big residential neighborhood with a distinct Spanish community. This neighborhood houses Palo Alto College, a Hispanic-serving institution that has an easily accessible library, bookstore, and other facilities open to the community.

South Southwest is proximity to several lakes: Kilroy Lake, Ballasetal Lake, Canvasback Lake, and Mitchell Lake, among others, making it an opportune neighborhood for avid fisherman, kayakers or boaters. These lakes also provide a great place to cool off during the hot Texas summers.

San Antonio Missions National Historic Park is another resource in the vicinity. The San Antonio River cuts directly through this national park, which holds a chain of historic Spanish missions, providing a coalescence of natural and cultural interest. Mission del Lago, an 18-hole golf course complete with a driving range, provides additional opportunities for leisure activities.

South Southwest is a short commute from downtown, and public transportation by bus is also available.
