Sun City is a retirement community located in the Phoenix metropolitan area that has been home to lovers of the climate in Arizona since 1960. When this neighborhood was first opened it boasted five models homes, a shopping center, a recreation center and a golf course, and attracted so many people that it warranted a Time magazine cover story. Developer Del E. Webb recognized Sun City's popularity in the western U.S. and expanded it over the subsequent years. Webb's company went on to construct other retirement communities in the Sun Belt as well as across the country.
Sun City offers every kind of activity to entertain its residents, and golf is an extremely popular pastime. The community features eight golf courses: five regulation and three executive courses that cover more than 1,000 acres. Resident players can enjoy tournaments and other events at the courses year round.
Sun City also has five movie theaters, six bowling alleys and more than a dozen swimming and fun parks to keep its residents active in the warm Arizona climate. Adventurous locals and visitors can explore the nearby Navajo Scenic Roads that wind through high desert, mountains, valleys and canyons.
