Ballantyne West is a residential neighborhood in Ballantyne, North Carolina, approximately 16.5 miles south of Charlotte. Ballantyne West's northern boundary is defined by Interstate 485, and the area expands southward to where the Charlotte Highway crosses the state border. Other major roads include Lancaster Highway, Ballantyne Commons Parkway and Johnston Road. From Ballantyne West, Charlotte averages a 25-minute commute by car. Public bus transportation to the city is also available. 

Ballantyne West is home to numerous local restaurants and cafes. The neighborhood also holds Ballantyne Village, a shopping center with boutiques, outdoor entertainment, a YMCA, an art-house movie theater and espresso bars. Ballantyne West holds a number of parks as well. Elon Park and Recreation Center is next to Ballantyne West and has a gymnasium, baseball field, walking trails and fishing pond. 

Nearby amenities to the neighborhood include the Golf Club at Ballantyne, the Big Rock Nature Preserve and several country clubs. The Golf Club at Ballantyne provides a public 18-hole PGA championship course that is open year round. The Big Rock Nature Preserve is a natural treasure with large granite formations and hiking trails.
