Jefferson is a neighborhood on the northwest side of San Antonio. Major roads in the area include McDermott Freeway, Fredricksburg Road and Dickerson Drive. Neighborhood residents can travel throughout the city via car or bus.
The Jefferson Neighborhood Association was founded in 1982 to help preserve the area. The JNA holds monthly meetings where residents can discuss neighborhood issues, such as what sort of amenities they'd like to see built.
Woodlawn Lake and Park rests on Jefferson's southern border. This natural green space is a popular outdoor spot for residents of San Antonio. You can hike through the wooded areas, fish on the lake, climb on the playground equipment, go for a swim at the community pool or work out in the recreation center.
There are a few shops and restaurants scattered throughout Jefferson, though you'll find the highest concentration of them along Fredricksburg Road. Stop for a cup of coffee at the local cafe or dine at one of several authentic Mexican restaurants.
Jefferson is home to a variety of schools, including Thomas Jefferson High School, St. Paul Catholic School, Redeemer Lutheran School and Woodlawn Elementary School. Thomas Jefferson High School is a designated historic site, built on what once was a cow pasture.
