Greater Heights is a historic neighborhood on the north side of Houston. This area is filled with buildings dating back to the late 1800s. Greater Heights was founded in the 1890s by Oscar Carter and was one of the first planned communities to have streetcars. You can see the progression of architecture from late Victorian to prairie to modern as you walk down the street. 

Learn about the metamorphosis of modern communication at the Houston Telephone Museum. You'll see crank phones and switch boards galore as you walk through the building. The museum was close to being shut down when its old location - a building owned by AT&T - was sold. However, the museum was moved and maintained. 

The Heights Plaza Shopping Center is the most popular spot for residents to do their shopping. You'll find everything you need, from groceries to clothing. The center is conveniently located in the middle of Greater Heights. 

Greater Heights is bordered by three main highways. The North Loop - or Interstate 610 - makes up the northern boundary. North Freeway- Interstate 45 - creates the eastern edge of the neighborhood and Interstate 10 is to the south. Though there are no train lines in the area, there is a public bus.
