Learn more about Bayview

Bayview is a neighborhood in San Francisco.

Bayview is a neighborhood on the southeast side of San Francisco, near the city center. Major roads in the area include the John F. Foran Freeway, Highway 101 and 3rd Street. Residents can travel throughout the city via car, train, cable car or bus. Getting to the downtown district will take you about 20 minutes by car.

Bayview used to be home to a shipyard, which provided many jobs and transformed the area into an industrial neighborhood. Though ships are no longer built and repaired in Bayview, the industrial atmosphere persists. Now artists work in converted warehouse spaces and independently owned shops line the streets.

Canyon Cinema is a theater in the Bayview neighborhood that shows experimental non-commercial films to local audiences. Stop by to see independently-made art that you won't see anywhere else.

The Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre was constructed in 1888 and is the oldest opera venue and registered landmark in San Francisco. Though there's not much opera performed there anymore, the Bayview Opera House hosts dance, yoga and drama classes where community members can improve their artistic skills.

Bayview is full of activities for every age group. There are many parks scattered throughout the neighborhood for those who love to be outside. Bars and restaurants are also popular spots to find excitement.
