Learn more about Englewood

Englewood residents can try their hand at urban community farming.

Englewood is a neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. There are several train lines and buses that run through the area, making it an excellent spot to live if you rely on public transportation. Residents living in Englewood have little need for a vehicle. Those who drive can take the Dan Ryan Expressway north into the city's center or head south to Lake Calumet. The western boundary of the neighborhood is Ashland Avenue, which runs north-south. Buses and trains stop on this main street.

Kennedy King College is right in the center of Englewood. This community college offers a variety of programs, including culinary arts. The school has affordable tuition as well as career counseling services.

Englewood has churches and parks in abundance. Residents can choose from one of the many chapels to attend on Sunday morning and walk the dog afterward in a nearby park.

Perry Avenue Farm is located on the east side of the neighborhood and is part of the City Farms project. City Farms transforms vacant urban lots into operating small community farms. The Perry Avenue Farm grows fresh produce for locals. The farm produces 20,000 pounds of heirloom tomatoes, arugula, beets, carrots, kale, collards, herbs and more per acre.
