Learn more about Mission

Mission is a San Francisco neighborhood.

Mission is a neighborhood on the near south side of San Francisco. Major roads in the area include Central Freeway, Bayshore Freeway, Cesar Chavez Street, Dolores Street and Market Street. Neighborhood residents can travel throughout the city via car, bus or light rail.

Because Mission abuts the downtown district, it's an energetic place. There are tons of bars, restaurants and cafes of all types scattered throughout the area. Mission is a culturally diverse neighborhood, so you'll find cuisine from around the world there. Locals consider the area to have the best Mexican food in the city.

Mission is also an artistic neighborhood. The Victoria Theater is the oldest still-operating theater in the city, and was built in 1908. The building used to be known as Brown's Opera House and it featured vaudeville performances. The theater is still used to host a variety of shows, including musicals, plays, concerts and films.

Garfield Square is a park located in the southern section of the neighborhood. It features a soccer field and public pool. Potrero del Sol and the James Rolph Jr. Playground are located on the southeast corner of Mission. This park is another great place to spend time outside.
