Learn more about Washington Heights

Washington Heights is a lively neighborhood in northern Manhattan.

Washington Heights is a neighborhood on the far northwest side of Manhattan in New York City. Interstate 95, Harlem River Drive, Henry Hudson Parkway and Broadway all run through the area. Residents can use one of these major streets for intra-city travel or take public transportation, which includes the subway and bus systems.

Washington Heights sits between the Hudson River and Harlem River. The neighborhood is also the setting for the Tony Award-winning musical, "In the Heights." This show follows the life of a Hispanic-American who lives in this section of Manhattan.

Washington Heights has a strong Hispanic and Dominican population and it is also the home to the Hispanic Society of America. The society runs a museum and library that display the works of prominent names in the Hispanic culture.

Spend your days outside at one of the many hilly parks in Washington Heights. You can visit the Herbert and Florence Tenzer Garden to enjoy gorgeous landscaping or head farther east to visit Highbridge Park.

The night life in Washington Heights is bustling with plenty of bars and restaurants open late.

The neighborhood has a lot of historical significance as it is the site where George Washington led an unsuccessful battle campaign against the British in 1776.
