Kensington is a neighborhood located in north Philadelphia. The area has access to several train lines, which take residents to different parts of the city. Commuting to and from work or running errands is easy with public transportation. The Delaware Expressway - which also provides access to the center of the city - goes through the southern edge of the neighborhood.
The Delaware River is just past the expressway. Kensington residents have access to local beaches where they can swim in the summer or simply enjoy the view year-round. Fishing is popular in Philadelphia thanks to the river access. Locals set out to catch bass, walleye and more. In fact, Kensington went by the name Fishtown until Anthony Palmer began developing the area into a new town in 1729.
Kensington has several parks and playgrounds, including one named for Anthony Palmer. Restaurants and bars dot the area, giving Kensington an energetic nightlife scene. The Memphis Taproom is a favorite watering hole that serves vegan fare. It has a huge selection of beers and the staff can recommend a good drink.
