Learn more about Bedford-Stuyvesant

Bedford-Stuyvesant is an urban submarket in New York's Brooklyn borough. The area is a hotspot for arts and culture, with a range of celebrities residing in this neighborhood. Mos Def, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes have all called this area home.

Bed-Stuy, as it's routinely called, came to be when the Village of Bedford and Stuyvesant joined to form one district. On Fulton Ave rests a neighborhood landmark, Restoration Plaza. This 300,000-square-foot building is a civic and commercial center that supports the commerce of central Brooklyn. Bed-Stuy is also known for its 19th century architecture that lines the streets.

In the summer you can enjoy a variety of art-themed and family-centric fairs and festivals. Additionally, in July there is an International African Arts Festival. Each October the city's iconic homes are toured in the Brownstones of Bed-Stuyvesant house tour.

Like many urban neighborhoods, locals often use public transportation in Bed-Stuy. There are ample subway lines nearby, including the C, J, A, M and G trains.

Bed-Stuy has been the backdrop of a range of Spike Lee films and Chris Rock's "Everybody Hates Chris."

Locals tout the restaurant Peaches, which serves Southern food in a relaxed environment. In addition to its permanent shopping community, designers have been known to setup pop-up shops in this area.
